Cambria County Farm Bureau hold legislative farm tour
On August 25, Cambria County Farm Bureau held their annual Legislative farm tour at Barr Ridge Farms outside Nicktown. This year, owners Ralph and Mary Beth Lieb and sons Aaron and Bob hosted the event which invites County, State, and National elected officials and their staff to meet with legilative committe memebers of the Cambria County Farm Bureau to discuss the priority issues of the grass roots, voluntary organization and to see first hand a different operating farm each year. Issues discussed this year included the dairy crisis, ag programs and the state budget, health care reform and legislation dealing with property rights , vehicle code amendments, cap and trade, animal welfare, water rights, limiting liabiltiy for agritourism and agritainment and unauthorized entry to biosecurity areas. In addition to local farm bureau members, elected officials that attended were Rep. Gary Haluska, Rep. Frank Burns, Commissioner Bill Harris and Staff from Cong. Bill Shuster, Senator John Wozniak, and Senator Arlen Specter. County Judge candidate Linda Fleming also attended. |
