Food Safety Update

strawberryAct 106 of 2010 revised food safety laws to reflect modern food science, eliminated duplication of inspections, provided for uniform inspection requirements and updated other issues with the food safety law.  The law took effect on January 22, 2011.  The primary impact of potential concern to membership impacts farmers market vendors. Previously, the market master would hold the license for the entire market. Under the new law each market stand would hold a license, unless they are exempted (those selling raw agricultural products and pre-packaged, non-potentially hazardous food). In addition, the law has not changed food safety requirements for home food processors.
