2008 Teacher of the Year Award Application

At the end of this page, you will find an application for the thirteenth annual Outstanding Ag in the Classroom Teacher Awards sponsored by the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers. The purpose of this award is to recognize teachers who are doing an excellent job of teaching their class about agriculture and integrating agricultural concepts into the existing curriculum.

Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers are farmers between the ages of 18 and 35 who are actively engaged in production agriculture. These young people know that many difficulties faced by today's farmers are caused by regulators, legislators and a public who do not understand the business of producing food and fiber.

In order for agriculture to remain a viable industry, it is important for the public to understand the crucial role that it plays in our history, economy, and quality of life. When the next generation of farmers takes over, we hope the public will be better informed about agricultural issues. This education must begin with today's youth. It is for this reason that the Young Farmers & Ranchers would like to recognize a schoolteacher who is doing an outstanding job of educating tomorrow's citizens about this nation's number one industry.

The Outstanding Teachers will receive a voucher for instructional materials targeted to his or her grade level to be redeemed by December 31, 2008 plus a cash award. The application must be postmarked by June 13, 2008. The recipients will be honored at the Sponsor Recognition Banquet of the Ag in the Classroom Teacher Workshop on Thursday, July 17, 2008. The banquet will be held at Toftrees Resort in State College and will be attended by the 2008 Teacher Workshop graduating class and their sponsors.
