Discussion Meets provide an opportunity for greater participation on the part
of young, active farmers and ranchers. It will help them develop a greater
command of basic discussion skills and they will acquire a better understanding
of how people can think in groups to cooperatively find solutions to problems.
The Discussion Meet is a competition involving 4-6 contestants who discuss
an issue affecting agriculture.
The participant's responsibility is to exchange
ideas and information in an effort to solve a problem. A moderator introduces
the topic and the contestants and helps to keep the discussion on track. The
Discussion Meet is an exercise in cooperative problem solving with questions,
answer and statements coming from any contestant at any given time. Young Farmers & Ranchers
may compete in Discussion Meets at the regional, state and national level.
