Agricultural Acts

GATT - The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, originally negotiated in 1947, provides a code of conduct for international commerce and a framework for periodic multilateral negotiations on trade. The Uruguay Round Agreement established the World Trade Organization (WTO) to replace GATT on January 1, 1995.
Genome - All the genetic material in the chromosomes of a particular organism.
Gilt - Female pig of any age prior to second pregnancy
Gleaning - Collecting of unharvested crops from the fields, or obtaining agricultural products from farmers, processors, or retailers without charge.
Gopher -  An Internet client/server that distributes an information delivery system around which a campus-wide information system can readily be constructed. Gopher facilities access to other Gopher and informational servers throughout the world.
Grade, Grading, Grader, Grades - degree or rating in a scale classifying according to quality. Grading is based on standards, and standards are based on measurable attributes that describe the value and utility of the product. Beef quality standards, for instance, are based on attributes such as marbling (the amount of fat interspersed with lean meat), color, firmness, texture, and age of the animal, for each grade. In turn, these factors are a good indication of tenderness, juiciness, and flavor of the meat--all characteristics important to consumers. Prime, Choice, and Select are all grades familiar to consumers of beef
Grade B Milk - Raw milk prohibited from use as a Class I product.
Grafting - The process of inserting a scion of a specified plant variety into a stem, root, or branch of another plant so that a permanent union is achieved.
Gross Farm Income - Income which farm operators realize from farming. It includes cash receipts from the sale of farm products, government payments, value of food and fuels produced and consumed on farms, and the rental value of farm dwellings.
Ground Water - Water beneath the earth's surface between saturated soil and rock, which supplies wells and springs.
