Agricultural Acts

Manure Management Manual - The guidance manual entitled "Manure Management Manual for Environmental Protection" and its supplements developed by an interagency workgroup and published by the PA Department of Environmental Protection. The manual describes approved manure management practices for which a permit or approval from the Department is not required.
Manure Storage Facility - A permanent structure or facility, or portion of a structure or facility, utilized for the primary purpose of containing raw or untreated manure.
Marbling - The amount of fat interspersed with lean meat
Marketing -  All business activity involved in the moving of goods from the producer to the consumer.  AMS aids in the marketing of food and fiber products.
Market Shed - The area where the producers are located who supply a given city or metropolitan area with practically all the milk used for table purposes.
Marketing Area - The geographical territory covered by a Federal Order in which the handling of milk is subject to the terms of a Federal Order. The area is clearly specified in the order. Milk dealers conducting business in the area are subject to regulation.
Marketing Loans - Low interest loans made to farmers on farm or warehouse stored commodities when the market price is low, or extra money is needed.
Marketing Order - A set of regulations requested by farmers covering the pricing of the milk supply for a given market area. The regulations are administered by the Federal or state agricultural department, or both, jointly. A marketing order sets minimum prices to be paid to farmers for milk, and class prices according to use. It does not set retail prices.
Marketing Spread - The difference between the retail price of a product and the farm value of the ingredients in the product. The farm-retail spread includes charges for assembling, storing, processing, transporting, and distributing the products.
Migrant Farmworker - A person who travels across state or county boundaries to do agricultural work of a seasonal or temporary nature, and who is required to be absent over-night from their permanent place of residence.
Milk Producers Security Fund - A Pennsylvania law that requires all milk dealers who purchase milk from Pennsylvania farmers to submit surety bonds to the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board (PMMB).
Minimum Allowable Daily Load - The maximum amount of a pollutant from point and nonpoint sources, which the receiving waters can assimilate at the accepted design stream flow without endangering the achievement of the water quality standards.
Mitigation - An action taken to (1) minimize an impact, (2) rectify the impact, or (3) reduce or eliminate the impact of an action.
Most Favored Nation - (MFN) Agreements between countries to extend the same trading privileges to each other that they extend to any other country.
