Discussion Meets provide an opportunity for greater participation on the part of young, active farmers and ranchers. It will help them develop a greater command of basic discussion skills and they will acquire a better understanding of how people can think in groups to cooperatively find solutions to problems. The Discussion Meet is a competition involving 4-6 contestants who discuss an issue affecting agriculture.

The participant's responsibility is to exchange ideas and information in an effort to solve a problem. A moderator introduces the topic and the contestants and helps to keep the discussion on track. The Discussion Meet is an exercise in cooperative problem solving with questions, answer and statements coming from any contestant at any given time. Young Farmers & Ranchers may compete in Discussion Meets at the regional, state and national level.


Pennsylvania’s Discussion Meet Competition is held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 during PFB’s Annual Meeting in Hershey, PA. One PA YF&R winner, and two PA Collegiate winners, are selected to compete at the national level.


The four PA YF&R finalists will be invited to attend dinner on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 during PFB’s Annual Meeting in Hershey, PA. The winner will be announced at Tuesday evening’s banquet. The overall winning PA YF&R applicant will receive an expense paid trip to compete during the 2019 AFBF Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA, January 11-16 2019, in addition to various other prizes!


The two overall winning Collegiate applicants will receive an expense paid trip to compete during the 2019 Fusion Conference in addition to various other prizes!
