On June 15, 2012, the EPA announced a final approval on the sale and use of blended fuel containing up to 15 percent ethanol (E15) for vehicles from the Model Year 2001 and newer passenger vehicles, light trucks and some SUVs. This would cover the majority of the approximately 300 million vehicles in the United States.

E15 fuel is not permitted in vehicles manufactured prior to 2001 or  in off-road vehicles and equipment including boats, motorcycles, heavy duty engines such as used in buses and delivery trucks and engines used for the lawn and garden. Gas pumps dispensing E15 fuel will be clearly identified to prevent consumers from misfueling engines and equipment which are not approved by the EPA.

If you are a supplier interested in selling E15 and wish to learn more about requirements for registering with EPA and the Misfueling Mitigation Plans, please visit http://www.epa.gov/otaq/regs/fuels/additive/e15/index.htm or call EPA’s Fuels Program Support line at 1-202-343-9755.
